Pakistani Student Rewarded by $10,000 for detecting bug in Paypal’s Site

Rafay Baloch, an independent security researcher from Karachi, has been rewarded with $10,000 for reporting a remote command execution bug in the PayPal’s website.

According to details, the PayPal had announced that this reward initiative for those researchers who would report about the existence of a bug and its subsequent remote command execution, Technology Times Reported.

Rafay Baloch explained that the bug he had reported was very critical in nature and carried a high amount of risk to the PayPal as an attacker could have easily managed to execute any command on the server and manipulate the data at his will.

He said that he had been paid $500 for an XSS vulnerability that he found on Paypal’s main domain, in addition to $500 for an information disclosure. Rafay has reported 20 bugs which are still being validated by PayPal.

According to him, PayPal has also offered him job. However, he said that he has not decided in this regard mainly due to his studies.

It is to be mentioned here that Rafay has earlier also been acknowledged by Microsoft, ESET and eBay for reporting bugs and flaws in their systems.

115+ Israel Websites Hacked & Defaced by Malaysian Defacer

A Malaysian Defacer has been showing his support for Palestine by carrying out a mass attack against Israel Cyber Space. This hacker has shown no mercy to Israel and has hacked and defaced a total of 117 Israeli websites.

In 2012, Breaking the Silence, an organization founded by former Israeli soldiers whose purpose is to expose alleged abuses committed by the Israeli Defense Forces released a booklet of witness reports written by more than 30 former Israeli soldiers. These reports document of Palestinian children being beaten, intimidated, humiliated, verbally abused and injured by Israeli soldiers. Breaking the Silence is controversial and has been criticized for failing to provide evidence for its claims.

Since the Second Intifada, many human rights and non-governmental organizations have raised concerns over Israel's treatment of Palestinian civilians, specifically children. UNICEF, Amnesty International, B'Tselem and individuals such as the British writer Derek Summer-field have called for Israel to protect children from violence in accordance with the Geneva conventions. The European Union has linked the suspension of Israel/Europe trade agreement talks to human rights issues, especially in regards to children.
